Numbers, Variables and Their Properties

Unless you're studying the logical foundations of mathematics, most of the properties of numbers tend to seem either abstract or obvious. Later in the class, however, they become very important when you start trying to solve equations. By then, however, things like the Distributive Property and the Substitution Principle often seem so much a part of your thinking that you've forgotten the names and just remember the result.
