Structural Tags

There's a handful of tags every page has to have. These tags define the beginning and end of the page, the beginning of the document's body, etc. This section describes these "structural tags".

Example

A bare minimum XHTML page, including all the required tags but no content looks like this:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
<html>
<head>
</head>
<body>
</body>
</html>

The values in the DOCTYPE tag will vary depending on the HTML/XHTML version in which the page is written.
